The Office Technician-Typing (OT) is the advanced journey level, which regularly performs a variety of the most difficult duties and is expected to consistently exercise a high degree of initiative, independence and originality in performing assigned tasks. Under the direction of a designated supervisor, the OT functions as clerical support to an assigned area. This general office work includes typing, document handling, written and oral communication, statistical and other record keeping functions. A high degree of accuracy, initiative and confidentiality will be expected in this position. Knowledge of computers is important, but ability to learn is vital.

All hires are subject to Hiring Freeze and/or Budget Approval. This position will be filled with established hiring restrictions and may require the position to be filled on a Limited Term basis with the possibility of being extended and/or becoming Permanent/Full-Time.

Limited Term 12 months; may be extended up to 24 months or become permanent.

  • The position(s) require(s) the ability to type at a minimum speed as designated on the Class Specifications (link available in the additional documentation section). You must obtain a valid typing certificate confirming your ability to meet the minimum typing speed, prior to being hired. Additional information regarding acceptable typing tests is available at the CalCareers.ca.gov website.

Candidates new to CDCR are required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan fingerprinting, and Tuberculosis testing prior to appointment followed by department testing on an annual basis thereafter.
